We are a motley bunch! Once a year, for about 4 minutes, we clean up real nice-like and snap a few pics to send out as christmas cards so no one suspects just how strange we are on a day to day basis.

There’s hubby, who works hard all day and misses a large portion of the crazy that goes on around here.  Which is probably just as well…I don’t think he signed up for most of it when he agreed to marry me and have my babies.  Or, let me have his babies.

There’s me; homeschoolin’, soapmakin’, fun havin’, trip plannin’ mom… a rather random and ‘big picture’  individual who manages to homeschool and run my own company   without a lot of the ‘little picture’ details that hubby swears would make my life a lot more orderly.   I am the Oscar to his Felix.

At 10 y.0., there’s my oldest daughter, The Naturalist.  She led us to the homeschooling path we’re on.  4 years of dealing with the school system while trying to keep her from having a complete breakdown was enough for hubby and I, so we took a leap into the great unknown and couldn’t be happier!  Thanks for being a dyslexic, gifted, right brained thinker, kid!    She is passionate about nature, Animal Planet, History Channel, drawing, horseback riding, writing songs and poems, and being happy.

At 7 y.o., there’s my son, The Golfer.  I wish I could clone him.  Don’t get me wrong–I love my girls, but one each is plenty.  But The Golfer?  He loves to snuggle.  He loves to sleep in.  He loves to drink Coke and eat Ding Dongs with me.  He’s ‘easy like Sunday Morning’, to quote Lionel Ritchie.  His passions are golf, video games, WWII, and golf.  Oh, and also, he loves golf.  He is the defending USKG State Champion and will attempt the World Championship  in Pinehurst this year.

At 3, and almost certainly bringing up the rear, is The Toddler  The Sassy Princess.  (I just realized she’s getting too big to be The Toddler and needs to be renamed to fit her bigger and older self!)  She is assuring the final spot in our family belongs to her by making sure hubby and I are too busy and tired running around after her to get any baby making done.   Her passions are NOT getting potty trained, dividing things into groups that run ‘with brains’ or ‘with batteries’, watching Spongebob, and telling everyone what to do.

So here’s my family’s journey with dyslexia, giftedness, homeschooling, & living life well, and a list of books, games, CD’s, and movies that we recommend for everyone!

  8. Hi ! I accidentally bumped into your blog a week ago while I was surfing for parents of dyslexic children.

Found your site very touching, informative and cool .

Actually , now every day I spend some time to read your blog. Very nice place.

  9. Great blog! Love your photos, but your blog’s real creative too!

  10. I was happy to discover your blog today. I’ve developed an educational program for Windows called SpellQuizzer that helps children learn their spelling and vocabulary words without the battle that parents often have getting them to sit down and write them out while the parents dictate to them. The parent enters the child’s spelling words into the software making a sound recording of each word. Then the software helps the child practice his or her words. It really helped my children with their weekly spelling lists.

I would appreciate your reviewing SpellQuizzer in Child’s Play!. If you are interested in hosting a giveaway of a SpellQuizzer license I’d be happy to supply a free license to the winner. You can learn more about the program at http://www.SpellQuizzer.com. There’s a video demo you can watch at http://www.spellquizzer.com/SpellQuizzer-Demo.htm and a community site where SpellQuizzer users can share their spelling lists with one another (http://www.SpellQuizzer.com/Community). Finally, there’s a page targeted to homeschooling families at http://www.spellquizzer.com/spelling-software-for-homeschoolers.htm. I’d be happy to send you a complimentary license for your own use of the software. Please let me know if you are interested.

Incidentally, we have an affiliate program that might interest you. If you would like to earn money referring people to our site you can learn more about our affiliate program at http://www.spellquizzer.com/affiliate.htm.

    Thank you very much!

  14. Stumbled upon your blog and I apologize for emailing while your moving, but I had to tell you that you have completely, utterly, and authentically captured the insane chaos of decluttering while moving. I have done it a few times in the last few years and I’m still decluttering/unpacking from outrlast move while preparing for the inevitable next. Good luck to you and your family as you move and welcome to California (I’m in Orange County).

  21. Loved reading about your journey.
I have to smile- we are just starting our journey. We have had our 7 yo in a “great private” school for 2 years. Happy to say it was only 2- saddens me
That it was for that long. I feel brave for doing this when all around think I am crazy but what you are doing and able
To let go of is truly remarkable. Anyway would love to be able email you and chat in more depth. We used to live in CA but now in FL.
